THE OLD HOMESTEAD
503 W. Commerce St.

This style, essentially Greek Revival in character, borrowed elements from Gothic and Italianate designs, resulting in romantic homes of great presence. The Old Homestead is a beautifully preserved and well-loved landmark, and the descendents of the builder, Dr. George Augustus Sykes, still live in this architectural treasure as they have for seven generations. Fine period furniture and art original to the house, as well as the fascinating legends of the Sykes family make this a "must see."
