18th Century Gown Colonial Dress Baroque Dress

Although a corset was still worn, the 18th century saw a change to the hoopskirt with all the fullness being added only at the sides of the hips, through the use of “panniers”, or basket hoops. The bodice of the gown is very deeply pointed in the front, and lots of lace and ribbons were used.

	Antoinette - The gold brocade 18th century gown features a corset, panniers, bodice and skirt with floral inset and matching underskirt, all trimmed with ribboned lace. Antoinette - $600.00 as shown, not including underpinnings.

	Cornelia - The blue bengaline Colonial gown features a corset, panniers, bodice and skirt with brocade inset and matching underskirt, all trimmed with ribboned lace. Cornelia - $700.00 as shown, not including underpinnings.

Henrietta - This Robe a la Francaise, or Sacque Dress is worn over a corset and full panniers. The gown is made of linen and trimmed with more than 30 yards of embroidered cotton braid. The bodice of the dress comes to a point in the front and the back is pleated across the shoulders. The underskirt has four rows of ruffles in the front. The lower sleeves have three tiers of lace and gauze trimmed with ribbon roses. The ensemble is finished off with a matching bag and fan. Click on each picture for a larger image.
